Do you have “Decade Goal?”

Posted on Affirmation, Feelings, General, Parenting January 1, 2020 by Mary George

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that we have entered into a new decade! What a fantastic time to not only think about our resolutions and goals for the year but also our long term goals. It is a wonderful opportunity to introduce this concept to our kids as well. In years past we have blogged about different ideas of how to best make resolutions with our children. As we think about how to also discuss longer term goals with them, consider what can contribute to their happiness and overall well being. Needless to say our children are constantly bombarded with things that cause anxiety and stress and for some it can lead to depression. One theory that experts have is that giving back and helping others allows us to move outside of our immediate world, feel a sense of happiness, and gain perspective. Consider getting them involved in their community. Talk to your kids and find what interests them and figure out how to help them give back this year. Is it helping to build homes, reading to younger children, stocking the food pantry, starting a coat drive, offering to help the older couple on your street? Whatever it is there are a multitude of ways to do something positive for others that will fill them up with good feelings which can hopefully combat the negative. It is a great start to a lifetime of making a difference in their communities, the world, and helping them find a greater peace within themselves. What a fantastic way to begin a new decade! Happy 2020!
