The Power of Words

Posted on Affirmation, General, Self-Esteem July 30, 2014 by Mary & Claire

I was recently watching an interview with multiple successful people and the one consistent thing that they all shared was that their parents always told them, “You can do anything that you want to do, you can be anyone that you want to be – you just have to put your mind to it. ” Positive, powerful words that stayed with this group of people. Words that they each remembered that helped them create and define who they are and the life that they each chose to lead.
The power of words never ceases to amaze us. A person can be built up or broken down with just a sentence. Think about the last time that you were paid a complement. How did it make you feel? How about the last time someone said something negative about you? How did that make you feel? You have the power as parents, friends, spouses, siblings, co-workers and/or teachers to change someone’s day or to change how someone views himself or herself. Remind someone of their positive attributes and their true strengths. When someone sees their own strengths and believes in them, it gives them the power to achieve what they set out to accomplish. It will also give them confidence to take into other areas of their life as well.
