* Sasha Collins Blackwell, Ph.D., NCSP is a licensed psychologist in New York State and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.  She received her doctorate in Educational Psychology with a specialization in School Psychology from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her Bachelors of Arts from New York University.  In 2010 she did post-doctoral training at Adelphi University Institute for Parenting.  She has worked in a number of educational, clinical and academic settings, most recently in curriculum development and solution-focused parent consultation to foster children’s positive developmental, academic, behavioral and socio-emotional outcomes.

Technology and social media have an enormous role in the academic and social lives of most teens and pre-teens. While there are many benefits to using technology, it is important to realize that not all developments have been positive, and that parents have a major role in helping their children safely and efficiently use technology.
Screenagers: Are you watching kids scroll though life, with their rapid fire thumbs and a six second attention span? Physician & filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time – friction she knew all too well.
